Here are some news tidbits to be aware of as we continue our journey into discussing what you can do to reduce your risk for breast cancer. Before we move on I just want to emphasize that I am not a proponent for people obsessively examining all things they come into contact with to see if they are likely to develop cancer from the consumption or use of that substance. It is my belief that cancer is a multi-factorial disease that has its roots from many sources, environmental exposure to chemicals being one root. Emotional patterns, diet, genetic predisposition and spiritual awareness all play a role into whether one will ultimately develop something like breast cancer. So having said all this, let's talk about parabens in cosmetics and how your beauty regimen may be putting you at risk for breast cancer in the future.
Parabens are added to thousands of cosmetics, lotions and beauty aids as a preservative. Trust me when I say it certainly does have its uses. As someone who loves to make her own organic herbal lotions, preservatives are imperative to keep unappetizing green fuzzy stuff from growing on the surface of your face lotion. However, parabens (Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, p-Propylparaben, Isobutylparaben, n-Butylparaben and Benzylparaben) are xenoestrogens. Xenoestrogens are substances that act like estrogen in the body if consumed or absorbed through the skin or lungs. Lotions and makeup are of greatest concern as they have the greatest opportunity to be absorbed through the skin. Many breast cancers are estrogen sensitive and parabens have been found within breast tumor tissue. So ladies, make sure you read ingredients when you choose your next foundation or skin lotion. This is a life long habit that is worth adopting now. Parabens are known to accumulate in the body so stopping at anytime will eventually reduce your overall body load. CAIRO — Several thousand women demanding the end of military rule marched through downtown Cairo on Tuesday evening in an extraordinary expression of anger over images of soldiers beating, stripping and kicking female demonstrators in Tahrir Square.
