Here's something very disturbing for everyone who lives in America today. High fructose corn syrup has been found to contain the heavy metal mercury. In a study published today by the Journal, Environmental Health researchers have determined that as much as 0.570 micrograms of mercury was found in one gram of high fructose corn syrup. The average American consumes approximately 50 grams of high fructose corn syrup per day. The World Health Organization's recommendation on safe mercury levels is 0.2 micrograms of mercury per kilogram of weight per day. So conceivably, the average American consumes almost 30 micrograms of mercury per day from high fructose corn syrup ALONE. This doesn't include consideration of mercury from fish, seafood, water, pollution, mercury amalgams, vaccinations etc. that the average American is exposed to regularly.
Exposure to mercury is a greater concern for children and pregnant or nursing mothers. Why be concerned about mercury exposure? Well, mercury toxicity affects your immune system leading to chronic colds, infections, viruses or even worse things such as increasing your risk for cancers and immune deficiency concerns. Nervous system concerns such as autism in children, lowered IQ, attention problems, anxiety, depression or diseases such are Parkinson's or Alzheimer's disease can be worsened or caused by an over-accumulation of heavy metals such as mercury or lead. Finally, your hormones can be thrown off by mercury leading to thyroid, adrenal or blood sugar problems. People with chronic mercury or other heavy metals can experience skin problems like allergies, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, eczema, acne, arthritis and a host of other health problems.
It's bad enough that the FDA's allowance of mercury makes US standards one of the worst in the world, now we are having stunning findings such as this where mercury is found in places where one would never expect to have mercury....in our food additives. High fructose corn syrup is in so many processed foods, it's shocking to hear this news today. Other food additives found to also contain mercury include common food preservatives such as sodium benzoate and citric acid.
Being careful of your intake of processed foods containing high fructose corn syrup will go a long way to help reduce your body's accumulation of mercury. Read labels. Fast foods, sodas and many processed foods contain high fructose corn syrup. Even "healthy" foods such as Yoplait Yogurt, Special K cereal, salad dressing, "heart healthy" cereals contain high fructose corn syrup. Taking a proactive stance about high fructose corn syrup will not only help your overall mercury accumulation reduce, you will find that you more easily lose weight and feel more energetic.

Hi Dr. Wang. I found your site through a friend who published the article on Mercury in soda pop on FB. I think your site is great and thank you for being another voice for the folks who fall outside the "box" of western Med. I hope you will also consider and begin to study the fact that Lyme Disease is often a culprit of many of these symptoms as well. It is called the "Great Imitator." If you want more info please contact me on FB. Have a great day!!!

Family, freinds, lovers, neighbors, co-workers, the postman, people from your church, people you like, people you don’t like, your ex-husband or ex-wife (I know you don’t want to, but take one for the team), the cashier at Walmart, your child’s teacher, the kid in the drive-thru window at McDonald’s, the random encyclopedia salesman that knocks on your door while your eating dinner, the pushy car salesman who doesn’t believe your “just looking,” the overweight plumber wedged under your kitchen sink

I'm aware about the dangers of mercury but I'm completely clueless and never tried to ponder whether soft drinks can damage the brain. Its not only about the bones anymore if we're talking about soft drinks. I feel more well informed.
